Petitions

Politicians in Washington, DC should live by the same rules as the rest of us. If you don’t do your job, you shouldn’t get paid.

S388, Co-Sponsored by Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, would stop Members of Congress and the President from getting paid during a government shutdown. Under current law, their paychecks are not affected in the event of a shutdown.

The Stabenow legislation would close that loophole and make sure elected officials are living by the same rules as everybody else. In addition, the legislation would not allow back pay for lawmakers and the president for any days worked during a shutdown.

The No Budget, No Pay bill passed unanimously in the Senate, but House Majority Republicans have yet to act. Instead they are playing partisan politics with the budget by trying to gut the Clean Air Act, education, and eliminate women’s health programs instead of compromising with the Senate and the President.

Please sign the petition and let your Member of Congress know that if they don’t do their jobs and fail to pass a budget, they shouldn’t get paid.
