Our work is focused on health care reform on both the state and federal levels through the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) campaign; creation of sustainable jobs; the future of energy in our country; repeal of Michigan’s drug industry immunity law, and other issues that will make Michigan once again a state that advances the social and economic security of every citizen.
President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 into law on March 23, 2010.

Social Security belongs to the people who have worked hard all their lives and contributed to it. Social Security is a promise that must not be broken. If you pay in, then you earn the right to benefits for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children when you retire, experience a severe disability, or die.
We need to strengthen Social Security, not cut it. That is why we oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits, including increasing the retirement age. We also oppose any effort to privatize Social Security, in whole or in part.

The gap between the wealthiest and the rest of us has grown wider as the tax burden has declined; the federal tax rate for the wealthiest 400 Americans has dropped from 29 percent to less than 17 percent in the past 15 years. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, federal, state, and local income taxes consumed 9.2 percent of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950. This is not the 1950s, and the United State needs federal investments in health care, energy, education, and defense.
